School News (NEW)
Dear Sunnyside Families,Welcome back from Spring Break and welcome to spring at Sunnyside. The flowers are blooming and all the other seedlings are being planted this week and next. Nathan has been so busy getting our garden prepped all winter and now it's time for our gardens to shine!
Middle School has been up and running again with field studies and rain or shine, they are out in the community going to different spots around Portland. Robin's class visited Reed College's Cooley Gallery, Becca's class went to the Japanese Memorial, Portland Art Museum, and Oregon Historical Society; and Tara's class went to visit Orenco Station. Our younger students are also starting to travel more, with Joseph's class taking a visit to the Zoo, 3rd grade recently going on an architecture walk, and 4th grade visiting Mt. Tabor.
We are looking forward to our next Sunnyside Speaker Series, which will be on April 18th. This one is a special opportunity for our middle school families and the flier is attached. These speaker series are designed to bring families in so that they can participate with their students and learn more about some of the themes and topics that we cover here at Sunnyside.
We are looking forward to the Sunnyside Auction on May 6th and we hope that you can all join us to celebrate our community and hopefully continue our tradition of raising money to support our unique programming.
Thanks for all you do!
Eryn & Alix

5th Grade Afterschool Pickup
Dear SES 5th grade families,Please remember to wait on the sidewalk (just off school grounds) until the 3 pm bell rings, to allow the fifth graders space and time for a last-minute break, and eliminates the need for teachers and staff to stop and check IDs. Thank you!
Middle School dance: Friday, April 14, 6:30-8:30pm
Our middle school spring dance is coming up on Friday, April 14 from 6:30-8:30 pm. For the dance to happen, we will need chaperones! Sign up here to chaperone or bring snacks. (Chaperones must have active volunteer background checks.)The dance starts promptly at 6:30 and ends at 8:30—please make sure students have plans to arrive and leave at these precise times. Permission slips will come home a few days before the event. We request a $5 donation to cover the cost of the dance, but no child will be turned away for lack of funds.
