Students who do not attend will study marine biology at the school through class work and local field studies. All students have the opportunity to study marine biology during this week, but they are not required to travel to Catalina to complete this study. The study experience at Catalina is a unique opportunity for our school, and it is our hope that every student is able to experience this.
Parents are needed to help chaperone. Often we have more parent volunteers than spots available, so we use a lottery system. If you are chosen in the lottery, we will let you know by the second week of December. Parents are responsible for the cost of their trips.
The per person cost of the Catalina trip is $1050. Families may contribute to SES toward this cost in full or in part. For those contributing in part, the balance will be covered by the Go Fund, which is funded through fundraising efforts on the part of the SES community.
We use a form to record your child's intention to participate in the trip, your interest in chaperoning and other details. This form must be submitted no later than Wednesday, January 9th, 2018, so we know how many students are attending and to secure our plane tickets.
A deposit of $100 for your student must be submitted to the office by Friday, January 11th, 2018 in order to reserve their spot. This deposit is non-refundable and allows us to make the reservations. You can pay online using a credit card or bring cash or a check to the office.
