• Student and Family News, September 7

Dear Ida B Wells Students and Community,

Thank you for a great start to this school year.  After more than 540 days, we are all finally back under one roof.  Our students have done a great job of wearing their masks, staying socially distanced, and eating lunch outside.  I had the great pleasure of visiting several classrooms last week and was inspired by all the learning and community building that was taking place throughout the building.  At this point our students have received their PPS chromebooks, picture ID's, and a complimentary IBW t-shirt.  Teachers have reviewed their syllabi and have introduced their Canvas pages.  Most of us have figured out (or remembered) where all the classrooms are located.  I know that it will take some time before we all adjust to in-person learning again.  Given our positive start last week, I feel very hopeful about the weeks and months to come.
    Filip Hristic, Principal

*If you unable to pick up or purchase a book on this day, please see Mr. Higbee in Room 142 at lunch or after school beginning on Friday.  Books WILL NOT be handed out early on Thursday.
    Attendance Updates
We had some attendance glitches last week as we transitioned to our new 8 period schedule.
Please be patient as we work through these issues.  Kathy Lommen is our new attendance clerk.  She can be reached at klommen@pps.net or 503-916-5294

Here are a few attendance pointers:
    ABSENCES
Please email Kathy within 3 days to excuse an absence.
    ARRIVING LATE
Students, if you are late to school for any reason (tardy, arriving late after an appointment, etc), please go directly to your class.  DO NOT STOP IN THE OFFICE.  Parents, please email Kathy to notify her this late arrival is excused.
    LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY
If an appointment during the day is unavoidable please call Kathy as far ahead as possible with the details. Students need to come by the office and sign out.  Parents should not enter the building to pick up students.
    School Breakfast and Lunch
During the 2021-2022 school year, school breakfast and lunch is free for all students.  Breakfast is available from 8:00-8:30am in the cafeteria and you need to enter through the cafeteria doors in the courtyard.
    COVID-19 Testing
Last week PPS issued a letter to all families regarding COVID-19 Testing.  You can read the full letter here: 8/30/2021 PPS COVID-19 Testing Update
Parents, in addition, please complete this COVID 19 Testing Consent Form if you would like your student to be able to receive a Covid test should they become symptomatic while on campus.  Even if you fillled out this form last Spring, we need to have a new form completed and returned to the Main Office.
    Trivory App
We highly recommend that all our students and parents download the Trivory App on your phone or Ipad (it can also be used on your computer).  Communication channels can become overwhelming but the Trivory App is "one stop shopping". There are links from Trivory to all the other applications we use - our websites, social media, StudentVue and ParentVue and Canvas to name a few.  Be sure to check your Settings under More to receive notifications so you don't miss any important updates. In addition, Trivory is also now available in Spanish!  In addition, this App was developed and is managed by a 2021 Roosevelt Grad and is already being used by other PPS schools!
    Student Information
Each year at registration time, parents are asked to review and update the information on file for their students (address, phone numbers, emails, emergency contacts, etc).  This is now being done online. Your information can be reviewed, edited and submitted on ParentVue:

    Costs and Contributions
Costs & Contributions specific to your children's schedules can be made online at www.schoolpay.com. Please be sure to check both semesters when tallying Costs & Contributions. SchoolPay allows you to toggle between students as well. These contributions directly support the teacher's access to materials and supplies to provide more than what our school budget has the capacity to support. Every contributed dollar is appreciated. To learn more about how the class contributions help enrich each class, please visit: https://docs.google.com/.../15gY3jpSmCQ4neVTgHFUB.../edit...

    Student ID Cards/ASB stickers
Students, if you still need to pick up your Student ID card (picture taken last Wednesday) or a pre-purchased ASB sticker, they can be obtained in the Bookkeepers Office (located inside the Main Office) before school or during lunch.  You can not obtain these during class time.  For pre-paid ASB stickers, please bring a receipt (paper or on your phone).
    Parking Passes
If you still need to pick up your Parking Pass, you can do so in the Main Office before or after school or during lunch.
    StudentVue/ParentVue
If you are having trouble accessing StudentVue or ParentVue, please contact Kathy Lommen at klommen@pps.net
    Student ID numbers
All students have a six-digit number that is their assigned student ID number.  Whenever you call or email the school, please have the student ID number available and use it as well as your student's full name if you are leaving a message.  We want to ensure we are assisting the correct student.
    Back-to-School Night
Mark your calendars for the 2021-2022 Back-to-School night on Wednesday, September 22nd at 6:30pm.  It will be a virtual event where you can hear from your student's teachers and learn about curriculum, course requirements, policies and procedures for each class.  Watch for more information in upcoming bulletins.

    ATHLETICS
Athletics Weekly, Mike Nolan, Athletic Director
Greetings Sports Fans! We had our first week of school this past week and it was amazing to see all of our students in the hallways and engaging in our classrooms! It seems like it has been forever since we have all been in that setting. We also had some of our first competitions of the 2021 Fall Season as well. Our Cross-Country Program has had two meets under their belt and looking as strong as ever. Both of our soccer programs battled it out against some quality competition and looked poised to do some damage in the PIL this year. The Volleyball Program kicked off league play this past week with a convincing win against Roosevelt by the Varsity and JV2 squad. Our Cheer and Dance Programs are gearing up for their first presentations. And our Football Program traveled to McMinnville on Friday night and got their first taste of non-league play as well. We can’t thank our coaches and student-athletes enough for all of their time, dedication, and hard work they are putting in this year. Finally, a huge shout out to all of our teachers for creating inclusive, safe, and engaging classrooms for our students here at Ida B. Wells.  To continue reading this week's Athletics Weekly, click HERE
