• Student and Family News, February 7

    Dear Ida B. Wells Families,

The second semester of this school year is underway!   I hope you had a chance to review (and celebrate!) your student progress thus far.  Please reach out to teachers, counselors or admin if you have any questions about your student's grades.  Students finished forecasting last week.  Counselors are busy this week verifying student course selections for next year.  On Thursday I will get information from the district about our staffing levels for the 2022-2023 school year.  This will tell us whether we will expand, maintain, or reduce any of our programming.  I'll be sure to include more information next week.

Mark your calendars for this special event!

    School Calendar
There are 2 places to best view the daily/monthly calendar:  Website Calendar and Trivory
I highly recommend Trivory (website or app) as the calendar feature is much more user-friendly and it is synched with the OSSA calendar for athletics.

Opt-Out Information for 11th grade State Testing
Our state and district are returning to a statewide testing system known as OSAS (Oregon Statewide Assessment System).  This has effectively replaced SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium).  All 11th graders will be taking the tests unless their parent/guardian submits the opt-out forms. Each test will replace 2-3 class periods of Language Arts, Math and Science instruction (for a total of 6-9 hours of instruction). These tests are not a requirement for graduation for the classes of 2022 or 2023 due to the pandemic. If you do not want your child/student to take the test(s) (in early March), please fill out and return the opt-out forms to the Main Office or to the Vice Principal's Office (#139) across from the gym. NOTE that there are two opt-out forms:  one for Language Arts/Math and a separate one for Science.  If you have questions about statewide testing, you can email or call Vice Principal Ayesha Coning aconing@pps.net. To assist us in planning, please submit your Opt-Out forms by February 18th.   Math and ELA Opt Out Form  Science Opt Out Form
Parking Reminders for both parents and students
Just a reminder that both students and parents should not be parking in designated faculty parking.  Seniors with parking passes can park in student parking that runs from the west side of the tennis courts to the west side of the stadium.  Juniors with parking passes can park in the IBW designated parking area at the north end of the Rieke parking lot.  Juniors and seniors can still submit HERE for a parking pass.  Anyone without a pass needs to find valid parking in the neighborhood.

Parents, please DO NOT park in our designated faculty parking when dropping off your students in the morning.  It causes a ripple effect of problems for our faculty members.  Our limited parking is also a great reason to plan ahead when you need to have your student leave early for an appointment. Use the Absence Reporting Form  (before school begins that day) or call ahead and your student can be outside waiting when you drive through.

    ATHLETIC WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Greetings Sports Fans! With roughly three weeks left in the winter season, it is shaping up to be an
exciting finish to the regular season. Our Women’s Basketball Team is looking to make a return the
playoffs this year. They have been consistently ranked in the top ten in the coach’s poll and rightfully so.They are one of the top teams in the state defensively and are looking to make some noise in the
playoffs. The Varsity Men’s Team is looking to finish strong and make a push in the playoffs as well.
While their record doesn’t show it, they have consistently competed in arguably the toughest league in the state. Our Wrestling Program has one more week to tune up for districts. The Swim Program has a big week this week as they prepare for the district meet. Our Cheer Team just participated in their last tournament over the weekend as they prepare for a run at the state meet. Great time to be a Guardian! Continue reading HERE
