    From the Principal

    Hello Woodstock Families,

What a great Friday!  Although many of us were concerned with the precipitation forecast for today, we were, for the most part, able to avoid the rain for today’s Run for the Arts.  We were even lucky enough to see the sunshine during two of the runs!

    WSE

A big thanks to our Arts and PE Department (Mrs. Krill, Ms. Austin, Ms. Candace, and Mrs. Rowey) for making today’s event such a fun day for all!

With the Annual PTA Harvest Carnival one week away, I’d like to remind families that the PTA is still seeking volunteers.  This is a great tradition at our school and only possible due to the tremendous volunteer support we see each year.  With a week to go, now is a great time to sign up to be a volunteer. Detailed information below.

Also, the PTA would like all parents/guardians to know that wristbands for the Harvest Carnival will be available for pre-sale.  If you’d like to skip the lines next Friday, wristbands will be on sale Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before school next week.

We also want to let everyone know that students and families are encouraged and welcome to wear costumes to the Harvest Carnival, however, costumes should remain at home during the school day, including October 31 (Halloween).  Please help us keep the focus on learning and do not wear costumes to school.

Thanks again to everyone who joined us for Run for the Arts.  It was great to see so many families hear running, smiling, and supporting the arts at Woodstock!

    With Woodstock Pride,

    Seth Johnson, Principal
    Woodstock Elementary

    Conferences

This year, conferences are scheduled for November 25 and 26.

If you need an interpreter for you child's conference or need assistance scheduling a conference, please email your child's name and your needed language to WoodstockAttend@pps.net.

Any appointments that are scheduled prior to the appropriate registration window may be deleted as the schedule is cleared for the tiered registration. Thanks for your cooperation.

Parents/guardians are being asked to register for conferences online.  As this is such an important event and we truly want all families to be able to attend, we have developed tiered conference scheduling to allow for more equitable access to conference registration.  Below you will find the dates that registration opens to families:

    • Families whose First Language is NOT English - Tuesday, October 8 at 8:00 AM
    • Families with Multiple Children Attending Woodstock - Friday, October 11 at 8:00 AM
    • Open to All Families - Monday, October 14 at 8:00 AM

Please use the following link to register for conferences during your window:
    https://ptcfast.com/schools/Woodstock_Elementary

Again, if you need an interpreter for conferences or if you have extenuating circumstances that need to be considered for conference scheduling, please email WoodstockAttend@pps.net.

We look forward to seeing you at conferences!

    Additional Conference Information:

    • Families who will not be able to attend conferences due to a family vacation or similar reason will receive a conference summary form from their student(s) teacher(s).  Since these days have been designated as conference days when the orginal district calendar was approved, we will not be scheduling additional conferences outside of these times.
    • Also, please note that due to time limitations and other factors, we are only scheduling one conference per student.

    Author Visit: Remy Lai

    WSE

Woodstock is excited to welcome author Remy Lai on Monday, October 21st at 9:00 am. 3rd-5th graders will attend an assembly where she will be speaking to her new book, Pie in the Sky. Family members are also welcome to attend!

    About the story:

When Jingwen moves to a new country, he feels like he’s landed on Mars. School is torture, making friends is impossible since he doesn’t speak English, and he's often stuck looking after his (extremely irritating) little brother, Yanghao. To distract himself from the loneliness, Jingwen daydreams about making all the cakes on the menu of Pie in the Sky, the bakery his father had planned to open before he unexpectedly passed away. The only problem is his mother has laid down one major rule: the brothers are not to use the oven while she's at work. As Jingwen and Yanghao bake elaborate cakes, they'll have to cook up elaborate excuses to keep the cake making a secret from Mama.

    Read more about her here.

    FROM THE PTA

Volunteers Needed for the Portland PTA Council Clothing Center

The Portland PTA Council Clothing Center provides families with age-appropriate clothing for PPS students in need. The center assigns each Portland public school two days during the year to staff the center with volunteers, and this allows referred students from across the district to come select clothes up to two times per year.

Volunteers sort donations, wash clothing, and help families in need pick out clothes that are appropriate for them.

To sign up, please visit: Konstella or email Michelle Jasso at volunteer@woodstock-pta.org.
