    From the Principal

    Hello Woodstock Families,

Welcome to 2020!  Although it was great for our students and staff to enjoy a well-deserved break, we were all excited to see students return this week!  We started Monday with a unique School Wide Morning Meeting to welcome students back and introduce our School Climate Booster Month. For our School Climate Booster Month, we will be focusing on our four school values: Compassion, Curiosity, Integrity, and Perseverance.

This past week, students and staff participated in activities in their classroom exploring the importance of curiosity and how to become better citizens by asking questions.  At today’s Morning Meeting, we were able to recognize individual students who have shown curiosity throughout the week and introduce next week’s theme: Integrity.

As we move into next week, I’d like to make sure you are aware of two items.  First, I encourage all families to participate in a survey regarding a tentative “curriculum night” scheduled for later this spring and to provide some brief information regarding satisfaction with and suggestions for school communication and engagement opportunities.  The survey can be found here, but there is more information below.  Second, I’d like to invite you to attend the PTA Meeting on Monday, January 13 at 6:30 PM.  At 6:00 PM, prior to the PTA Meeting, I will provide an update on the school report card and other related information.  We hope to see you there!

Finally, with a lot of discussion about inclement weather next week, I’d like to remind everyone to register you number for text alerts from Portland Public Schools.  By texting “YES” to 68453, you will be registered to receive text alerts regarding closures, delays, emergencies, and other district events.

    Have a great weekend!

    With Woodstock Pride,

    Seth Johnson, Principal
    Woodstock Elementary

Changes to Your Student’s Dismissal (new after school programs and pickups)

Have you enrolled your student in an after school program this session or had another change of plans after school? Please remember to turn in a new Individual Dismissal Procedures form to the office or your student’s teacher. In order to ensure a safe dismissal for all students, it is very helpful for us to have accurate information for where you would like your student to go at the end of each day.

We would also like to remind you to send all changes to dismissal in writing (or email to woodstockattend@pps.net) by 1pm to give the office time to communicate with the teachers.

    Cultural Meal Day

We are looking at doing another Cultural Meal Day this spring and looking for families to submit recipes for side dishes that we can incorporate into the menu for that day.

Submissions can be sent to Woodstock Attend email address (woodstockattend@pps.net) with the subject line: Cultural Meal Day Recipe

Woodstock School Library Amazon Wish List

Did you know that the Woodstock School Library has an Amazon Wish List? Check it out here!

    PICCs of the week

We are excited to recognize our PICCs for this week.  Our PICCs of the Week are students that went above and beyond to display Perseverance, Integrity, Compassion, and/or Curiousity.

Please see the group photo of the students from today’s morning meeting below:

KIDS in the GAME is a non-profit that provides financial assistance to low-income families for sports registration fees. This program has found that engagement in school/intramural sports helps increase student attendance in schools and also brings positive mentors into the lives of students.

    Adult ESL Classes

Do you know of any families interested in practicing or improving their English Skills? Please let them know about the Adult ESL Classes being offered at Franklin, Madison@Marshall, Vestal, Jackson and Roosevelt. All classes are free and open to the Community! No registration required. See our flier, HERE.  (Translations pending on our website, esl.pps.net

Curriculum Night - Family Interest Survey

To provide families with more information about the daily instructional routines and practices at Woodstock, we are tentatively planning a Curriculum Night for this spring.  However, we’d like to shape this night around the interests and needs of families. To help plan this event, please take a moment and respond to this survey about your instructional interests.

In this survey, we are also seeking information regarding family satisfaction with communication and engagement.  Please take a moment to complete the survey.

    Thank you.

    From the PTA
