    From the Principal

    Hello Woodstock Families,

The first official week of the third quarter is off to a strong start.  Students in the MIP have adapted well to the AM/PM schedule change and we are already getting into spring activities, like Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB).  We’re also wrapping up our winter benchmark assessments. Be sure to look for an update on your child’s progress in their report card which will come home on February 10.

At today’s Morning Meeting, we were able to discuss our fourth value, Perseverance.  Next Friday, we are going to recognize and celebrate our school’s focus this month on all four values: Compassion, Curiosity, Integrity, and Perseverance.  As a part of our celebration, we are planning to give students their 2019-2020 Woodstock Pride T-Shirts! We would like to keep this a surprise for students, so please help us with this effort by not mentioning it until we announce it next Friday.  You can also help by having your child dressed in a way that they can easily pull their new t-shirt over what they are wearing or have them dressed in something that will be easy to change so they can put on their new t-shirt. We’d really like to see all students wearing their new t-shirts as they go home at the end of the day.

I’d also like to share a brief update and summary of the recent school-based Curriculum Night and Communication/Engagement Survey.  We had 75 individuals respond to the survey. As we plan our Spring Curriculum Night, we will take into account the interests identified in the survey.  The topic that received the most interest was “Academic Intervention and Support.” All the other topics received varying levels of interest. We’ll keep this information in mind as we create the agenda and plan for the event.

In regards to the communication/engagement component of the survey, 77% of respondents indicated satisfaction (either “Very Satisfied” or “Somewhat Satisfied”) with “Communication with the School” and 80% or respondents indicated satisfaction with “Family Engagement Opportunities” at Woodstock.

We very much appreciate the additional comments and feedback received too.  We have already taken action on a few of the recommendations to improve communication and engagement opportunities.  We will continue to use this information as a guiding resource for our future work.

Thank you to all that took the time to respond and provide feedback for our school improvement efforts.  If you weren’t able to participate in the school-based survey, you’ll have another opportunity to contribute through the district-wide Successful Schools Survey which has been opened to families this week.  Hopefully, you received an email from the district with a direct link to the survey. If you haven’t, you can access it below.

    Have a great weekend!

    With Woodstock Pride,

PPS Successful Schools Survey: Family Feedback

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you so much for participating in our annual Successful Schools Family Survey. Your responses will help your school understand your experience and use them to set goals and plan for next year. The survey will cover topics on school safety, school climate, barriers to family engagement, racial equity and inclusion as well as how well your school fits your student’s needs. Please be honest and thoughtful, and take your time to read and respond to the questions.

Please visit the link below on a computer, tablet, or smartphone and select the school your child attends. If you do not have access to a computer or internet, please contact your school office so we can provide a way for you to take the survey. Thank you so much for your time and feedback!

    Wet Days

The changing weather along with spills and accidents make for wet clothes during the school day.  The kids at Woodstock Elementary still go out to recess on wet rainy days. Please store a complete change of clothing (socks, underwear, pants, and shirt) in your child’s backpack in the event they are needed.

A Note From Your School Counselor......

    Hello Parents,

I want to thank you all for your generous donations in the past for our Wellness Center.  It's provided a great resource for many of our students without snacks, or in need of some food to help regulate.  While we want to continue this resource being available, we are unable to continue this resource being available through our Wellness Center.

Instead of donating to our Wellness Center, please communicate with your parent rep and classroom teacher regarding snacks for the classroom.  This will encourage students to remain in their class, and also reduce the interruptions to our work with students in the Wellness Center.

Thank you for your understanding and your continued generous donations!

    Funding Proposals Due 2/5/2020

The Woodstock PTA did a mid-year review of its budget and identified money to fund new projects above and beyond its continuing support for classrooms and school activities.

The first step in this process is to solicit ideas (along with their estimated costs) from teachers, staff, committees, parents, and students. Once all proposals are submitted, the Budget Committee will determine which projects are economically feasible and present a list of options to the Woodstock PTA for discussion and voting.

We anticipate devoting up to $5,000 for this round of funding proposals. Examples of funded proposals from recent years include school-wide OMSI assemblies, tree planting, after school class scholarships, books for classroom libraries, and a lion mascot costume.

Click here for the funding proposal form.

We have many different after school classes at Woodstock. Browse the catalog and find all the registration information you need on the PTA website -  woodstock-pta.org/after-school-programs.

Year of the Rat Totes & T-Shirt Ordering

Dear Parents of Woodstock, Hosford and Cleveland Schools,

This year’s Zodiac shirt was designed by Keane Toney, a 4th grade student at Woodstock Elementary. Shu Ren is selling Year of the Rat Tshirts for youth sizes ONLY this year. Shirts are priced at 18$ each or 2 for 30$. Shirts will be pre-ordered and then delivered after Feb 14th. In addition, we are selling Year of the Rat Grocery Totes. Totes can be pre-ordered but will also be for sale and on hand at the Lunar Festival. With the new grocery bag law in effect, some new grocery totes would be a useful purchase. Totes are 5$ each or 5 for 20$. All proceeds will benefit the Mandarin Immersion Program parent group, Shu Ren of Portland. The money raised goes to funds allocated to the immersion students at our three ‘sister’ schools. The t-shirts and totes support our program and create visibility in the larger community.

Oregon Convention Center & Keller Auditorium Chinese New Year Performances on 1/25/20

Our After-school Chinese Performance Arts K-5 / Advance Chinese Dance 3-5 had the opportunity to perform at both these venues last week in celebration of the Chinese New Year.  All students that participated had a wonderful memorable time.
