Top five things counselors wish students and families knew
High school can be challenging for even the most committed and informed students and their families. Benson girls basketball team shoots for state championship

My Voice: Elliot Shin
In this week’s edition of My Voice, Lincoln High School’s Elliot Shin discusses his non-profit organization, Olivenbaum, and its efforts to bring peace and understanding between world citizens through music. The group hopes to perform in South Korea during the Winter Olympics and possibly at the Korean Demilitarized Zone next month.
Most likely to succeed: Linus Pauling, Washington High School, Class of 1917/1962
Linus Pauling changed science, founding quantum chemistry, molecular biology, molecular genetics, valence bond theory and electronegativity. But a quirk kept him from receiving his high school diploma in 1917, when he was unable to take two required American history classes during the same term. He simply moved on to college at what is now Oregon State. In 1962, eight years after he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and the same year in which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Pauling received an honorary diploma, the only one ever issued by Washington High School.
