    2018 Giving Snowman

    Dear Odyssey Community,

As the holiday season gets closer we begin to think about the needs of others in our community.  We have many within our own school community that appreciate the support and caring of others during the holiday season.  The “Giving Snowman” will appear in the main hallway, with a variety of options for giving.  Please feel free to stop by, pick out a tag, and support someone in need.  The Giving Snowman will be up from November 19th - December 13th, with gifts being delivered prior to winter break.  This is a wonderful opportunity for your children to be involved in giving to others and recognizing that there are others in our community that are in need of some holiday cheer.

    Thanks for your support!

    Deanne Froehlich, Principal

    Holiday Scrip

    Hello Odyssey Families!

So far this year we have made over $1100 in profit thanks to a core of about 10 families. Come join the fun! I’m taking orders Monday, December 3 and Monday, December 10.

We’ve reached the holiday season. Scrip is a great way to help the school out and get your shopping done! Gift cards are great for gifts AND for buying gifts. Buy those three $5 Starbucks cards for your cluster teachers by writing a check to Odyssey PTA for $15. You get your cards delivered to the school and PTA makes $0.90 (6%). It’s that easy. The $25 Happy Teen card is now being offered with a 5% rebate. This single card is good at all the following stores: Jamba Juice, American Eagle, Sephora, Regal Cinema, Barnes and Noble, Dave & Buster's and Nike.

The Scrip Center has a few promotions going through December right now too: Taco Time and Baja Fresh cards are offering 15% rebate to the school. Columbia Employee Pass good thru January 19, 2019 with every $50 Columbia Sportsware Scrip card purchased (does not include an online code).

Finally, the Scrip Center partners with See’s Candy to sell holiday chocolates. Yummy little boxes of chocolate delivered with the December 13/14 scrip order. It’s not much extra work so I am extending the offer to you.

A packet containing all this information and the forms are attached to this bulletin, will be found in your child's box during conferences and on the bulletin board near the front door at school.

    Thanks so much!

PS You will also find a form attached for ordering gift cards for the Giving Snowman. Don’t need anything for yourself? Buy a card for a family in need.

Next Friday 12/7 is Coffee Cart!

Come grab a cup of coffee, some goodies and chat with other parents about the upcoming winter break, your weekend plans, your kids' homework or projects or anything else on your mind!

    See you there,

Odyssey Art News from Debi Crawford

The City of Portland Art Tax Oversight Committee needed some artwork for mail flyers, sprucing up their office and art tax reminder notices. I submitted a number of different pieces from Odyssey. Isaac Steele (4th grade) and Anya Taliman (3rd grade) were the lucky winners who were chosen!

On Monday, December 3 a reception is being held at the City of Portland Revenue Division office to honor these students. The reception will be from 5:30-6:15. All are welcome.

On December 5th I will be having a guest artist teach to the 3, 4, 5 classes. Julia Meschter was a Nike graphic designer and children's book published author. Her book is titled The Artist's Alphabet which will be available for purchase after the lessons. (watch for a flyer home) She will be teaching all 3 sections of classes with me, enlightening us about her journey as an artist before the lesson. We will be practicing her craft in class.

K, 1, 2 has finished their 6-week session of art classes. They will begin again the week of January 28th.

The artwork created in class is most often kept until the Art Show. The Art Show will be held on May 9th this year.

Thank you for all your support and all my lovely volunteers in art classes!

Odyssey Book Fair – Thank You!

Thanks everyone for coming out and supporting our book fair at Annie Bloom’s! We raised $1140 for our school to spend on books for our library, and we spent $5700 at Annie Bloom’s, reinvesting in our community!

    Thanks

Odyssey Ski Bus is ready to roll out.  Need a lift?

Each Sunday in January a charter bus will take interested participants to Mt. Hood Meadows.  It is a convenient way for your child (or anyone in your family) to purchase lessons, lift tickets, and transportation at a group rate.  The charter bus is equipped with televisions and a bathroom and parks right next to the lodge in the first row of the parking lot.  The whole family can join, or you can enroll your child in SnoBlasters and be assured that they will be escorted to the Ski School, receive instruction and supervision each Sunday, and be returned to you in the evening.  We will depart from the parking lot across from the Southwest Community Center on the corner of 45th and Vermont.
