Introducing the next principal at Wilson, Filip Hristić3/13/2019
Dear Wilson Community,
I am very pleased to share with you today that Filip Hristić will start as Wilson High School principal in July. Filip is a highly-respected PPS administrator who has spent the last five years as principal at Roosevelt High School.
Among many accomplishments during his time at Roosevelt, Filip led the school through a $100 million modernization campaign. Under his leadership, Roosevelt achieved its highest enrollment and graduation rates in more than 10 years, with graduation rates rising from 53 percent in 2014 to above 70 percent in 2017 and 2018. Enrollment rose to 1,000 students in 2018, up 150 students from 2017.
Filip also supported the development of Career Technical Education programs and established a multi-tiered system of supports at Roosevelt, which helped increase student achievement and reduce discipline referrals. Roosevelt has also seen the development of vibrant student leadership groups during Filip’s time there.
Before Roosevelt, Filip was principal at Creative Science, a PPS K-8 focus option school, for three years. He also worked as a principal in Newberg High School’s small-school system and as a teacher in Massachusetts.
Until Filip joins Wilson in July, the school will continue to be led by Maude Lamont, who was suddenly and unexpectedly asked to take over the principal’s role on an interim basis during the first weeks of the school year and she has been a stabilizing presence while we conducted our search. On behalf of all of the district’s entire leadership team, I want to thank Maude for her leadership during this transition.
Filip’s path to being a principal spans many miles. He is a native of Serbia and came to the United States with his family when he was in seventh grade. After graduating from high school in New Jersey, he went on to earn Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from Boston College before completing his principal training at Harvard. Filip (whose last name is pronounced h-REES-tich), is no stranger to the Wilson community, with both his children attending PPS schools in the neighborhood. I believe he will be an ideal fit.
Please join me in welcoming Principal Hristić to Wilson High School.
