10 Hybrid Reminders for High School Families
4/14/2021We are excited to welcome our high school students back into buildings starting April 19. It will be great see students, hear the voices in the hall and connect with one another in person. The last few weeks we have been preparing for students to return and wanted to share a few reminders to students and families.
- The Four Ws:
- Wear your mask
- Wash your hands
- Watch your distance
- Wait at home if you feel sick
- Please Bring:
- Charged Chromebook (your school will have a few in the office for students who forget)
- Filled water bottle
- Face mask (your school will have them available as well)
- Schedule:
- Each school has a posted schedule on its website. URLs for schools can be found here, or just type pps.net/schoolname (sub in your school’s name) in your web browser address bar.
- School Entry:
- Students can enter the school building at 1 p.m. Each school will have several entrances and will ask students to follow specific signs.
- Students who are early should line up outside the building and maintain physical distancing indicated by marks on the ground.
- Please screen students before they come to school using the checklist below. Students who answer “yes” to any of the questions should stay home, consult their healthcare provider and contact the school.
- Leaving School:
- Students will be dismissed at 3:45 p.m. each day. Students will need to leave the building through the nearest exit and head home.
- Students will not be able to hang out with friends in the building after school.
- If you are picking up your student, please wait outside the school.
- Review School Procedures:
- We put together a series of instructional posters for students and families to review. These posters are light on text and focus heavily on images from actual PPS schools, to help familiarize you before the first day of hybrid.
- Review videos and procedures on net/reopen2021 including our high school specific video.
- Some school procedures will look different, such as hallway traffic, which restrooms to use, etc. We will review those procedures during the first few classes but please remind your students that things will look and feel a little different.
- Testing Consent Form:
- PPS is requesting consent from families to test students for COVID-19 prior to the first hybrid instructional day. You can access a copy of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) consent form available in English and Spanish.
- Once you complete and sign the form, please email it to your student’s school secretary. You can find that information on your school’s website. If you are unable to submit electronically, you can also print and submit a paper copy of the consent form to your student’s school secretary or send it with your child on the first day of hybrid instruction.
- In the instance of a confirmed or presumptive COVID-19 case, PPS will follow our Case Protocol, which you can find by clicking here.
- Meals:
- Students participating in hybrid instruction will be able to pick up breakfast and lunch as they leave school.
- On days your student is not coming to school for hybrid, they can pick up meals at any of our meal distributions sites.
- Visitors:
- Visitors and parents will not be allowed in the building. Please continue to use our school phone lines, email, and virtual meetings to connect with staff.
- Please refrain from scheduling appointments and needing students to leave school during hybrid in person instruction.
- This is a big exciting change for students, staff and families. Students may feel excited, nervous, and many other emotions. We ask for everyone's patience and understanding as we welcome everyone back.
