A Snapshot of Numbers from PPS Vaccination Events for Students Ages 5-11
12/2/2021Portland Public Schools continues to advocate for all eligible students and employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. To help kick-start the effort to vaccinate younger students after doses for children ages 5 to 11 were approved on Nov. 2, we held events at several schools to give students of color the opportunity to be vaccinated.
Available data from six of these events held from Nov. 10 to 19, at Rigler, Sitton, Boise-Eliot/Humboldt, Lent, Scott and Faubion, offer a snapshot of a strong community response. At those sites, where vaccines were offered to students of those schools and their families, we were able to administer 687 vaccinations. Of those vaccine recipients, 514 were previously unvaccinated, adding a new layer of protection for the schools and community.
The events, held in partnership with Kaiser Permanente and Medical Teams International, were held as a way to reach students and families of color as well as newly eligible students ages 5 to 11. Some of the available numbers that show how those efforts fared:
