Announcing new additions to Business & Operations team
8/19/2019Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to announce two key additions to the Business & Operations team. Marina Cresswell joins us as Senior Director of the Office of School Modernization (OSM), and Debra Giles will be Director of the Client Services Division in the Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS). Marina and Debra are accomplished professionals who we feel will be major assets to our students and staff.
Marina will take the lead in one of our most high-profile efforts, the health, safety and modernization work funded by taxpayer-approved bond measures of 2012 and 2017. She will lead and manage the all of the district’s bond-funded capital improvement projects.
Her 20 years of facilities design, construction and operations experience include more than a decade with public agencies. Since 2018, she has been embedded in PPS as a Construction Project Management Director for CBRE | Heery, an architecture, interior design, engineering, program management and construction management firm that worked on bond projects with OSM.
Marina also has held positions in the Oregon Legislative Administration, City of Portland and Oregon Parks and Recreation. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Italian from Vassar College and a Master of Architecture from the University of Washington.
During our search to fill the position, Scott Perala served as interim Senior Director of OSM. We thank Scott for his service and hard work.
In her new position in OTIS (recently renamed from Information Technology), Debra will provide administrative direction and direct leadership of 16 members of the department and contractors. She will provide functional and technical oversight for district systems, including management systems for the service portal, web content, professional learning, mobile devices, remote systems, GSuite for Education and Microsoft.
She will succeed Marita Ingalsbe, who is retiring after serving more than 22 years in Portland Public Schools. We want to thank Marita for her dedication and wish her the very best.
Debra comes to us from the Hillsboro School District, where she has worked since 1998, most recently as Manager of Technology Services, a position in which she supported staff at 42 sites in the district. She also served as the district Title VI Indian Education Project Coordinator from 2011 to 2019. Debra started her professional career in PPS in 1978 as a Title I Assistant, and held several positions including Special Education Assistant, Library Media Assistant and Media Technology Assistant. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Portland State University.
Please join us in welcoming Marina and Debra to Portland Public Schools.
