Stephanie Soden joins PPS as Chief of Staff for Superintendent
1/2/2018Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero announced last week that Stephanie Soden will be his new Chief of Staff.
Soden comes to Portland Public Schools from Metro, where she served as Chief of Staff and chief policy advisor to President Tom Hughes.
In PPS, Soden will manage strategic partnerships, government relations, communications, community relations and supporting the superintendent in daily operations and management.
“Stephanie will be a key member of my leadership team,” Guerrero said. “As we embark on the work of transforming PPS, she will help to ensure that we do so through accountability, transparency and responsiveness to our families and community partners.”
Soden joined Metro in 2008 as the Director of Communications and Strategic Development. She has also served as Public Affairs Director for the Oregon Department of Justice and has held positions with Multnomah County and the Office of the Governor of Oregon.
Soden said she is eager to get started. "It's an honor to join the leadership team at PPS,” she said. “I'm excited by Guadalupe's vision, the Board's dedication, the unbridled commitment by teachers and staff, and the support of our community."
Soden is the latest addition to Guerrero’s leadership team. On Dec. 18, he named Yvonne Curtis as his incoming Deputy Superintendent of Instruction and School Communities. Guerrero says he will be continuing to add members to his team.
Soden, a PPS parent, will start work on Wednesday.
