Dear Arleta Community,
I am pleased to announce that Diana Kruger will serve as interim principal at Arleta School. Diana is a veteran educator who has been with Portland Public Schools for the past decade, during which she has established herself as a culturally-competent instructional leader with proven expertise in teaching, curriculum and program development, data evaluation, and collaborative teamwork.
The last two years, Diana has served as an assistant principal. In 2017-18, she was at Vestal School, where she coordinated the TAG and SIT programs, was in charge of teacher training, professional development and evaluation, and was the primary discipline administrator. In 2016-17, Diana served as assistant principal at Chapman School.
Diana worked four years at Vernon School as coordinator of the Response to Intervention and International Baccalaureate programs. She served on Vernon’s equity and leadership teams.
Diana started her education career as a third-grade teacher at Beverly Cleary School in 2008 before moving to PPS’s Odyssey Program, where she taught for four years in K-2 and 3-5 groups. In 2013, she was honored with the Oregon Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award.
Throughout her career, Diana has sought to create a learning environment that encourages innovation, celebrates diversity and actively engages all stakeholders in creative problem solving.
Diana earned a Bachelor of Science in Theater Arts, and a Master of Education, both from Portland State University.
Arleta staff will meet Diana today, and Arleta families are invited to meet her Friday, Aug. 24, at 9 a.m., and Monday, Aug. 27, at 6 p.m.
Please join me in welcoming Principal Kruger to Arleta.
