This summer promises to be the biggest of the PPS bond program so far. School modernization and improvement projects will touch almost every school over the coming months with security upgrades, new roofs, asbestos remediation, new fire alarms, ADA improvements and a seismic retrofit in the works.
Wrapping up PPS Pulse for 2018-19: This week's edition of PPS Pulse is the last for the 2018-19 school year. Thank you for your help and cooperation in gathering stories this year, and for reading. Students celebrate diversity at All-Star ceremony Students throughout PPS re-purposed a poem by Paul Hansford celebrating the “Different Hearts” that bring our diverse community together. This video was part of the All-Star Awards Ceremony that recognized students who exemplify diverse cultural and ethnic groups and who are committed to outstanding academic success and personal resilience. See a list of the awardees and a full set of photos from the ceremony.
Concerned about an unsafe situation? SafeOregon provides an easy method of reporting it Since its inception, SafeOregon has become a reliable way for students, families and community members to report unsafe situations. Since September 2017, when Portland Public Schools started encouraging its community to utilize the tip line, the district has received 259 tips on a variety of issues.
District launches effort to balance enrollment and programs Portland Public Schools has launched a two-year process to develop a framework for balancing enrollment and school programs across the district. The goal is to use data and community input to build a thoughtful and equitable plan that addresses all schools and programs as well as short- and long-term student, staff and community needs.
News & Notes: Scott PTA honored by Superintendent; PIL athletes win state track titles; more Anyone attending a meeting of the PTA at Scott Elementary School would surely have been struck by the conversation -- in Spanish, with headsets used to provide interpretation to English. The innovative setup was a way to show English-speaking families how it feels for the school’s Spanish- and Somali-speaking families to attend meetings held in English.
PPS graduation ceremony DVDs for sale: DVDs of graduation ceremonies for PPS high schools will be available for purchase. To buy one, send a check or money order for $20 to TV Services, 501 N Dixon St., Portland OR 97227. Checks should be made out to TV Services, and be sure to include your return address and phone number and indicate the year and school you wish to receive. Return postage is covered by PPS. Graduation ceremonies for 2019 also will be live-streamed on the PPS Live YouTube stream, and will be posted for future viewing on the PPS YouTube Channel.
