Rieke students all chip in to create a giant mural Little hands and colorful paint were on full display at Rieke Elementary School as students from every class took part in a weeklong event creating a giant mural for the school. Last spring students approached the school’s art specialist, Jill Mitchell, with the idea to create art throughout the school to make the campus more welcoming to visitors and incoming students.

The partnership, which was announced last week, has multiple benefits for PPS, including DonorsChoose.org matching a total of $250,000 of donations to district teachers.
High schools welcome 8th-grade students for info nights Students in their final year of middle school in Portland Public Schools will have a chance to see their future high schools when info nights are held throughout the district from October to December. Neighborhood, focus-option and alternative high schools will give students and families the opportunity to tour the campus, meet staff and learn more about the academic and athletic programs offered.
Vestal students make statement on peace one penny at a time Students and staff at Vestal Elementary School made their statement on International Peace Day one penny at a time, literally. To celebrate the Sept. 21 observance day started by the United Nations, Vestal’s fifth-grade student government organized a fundraiser to purchase a peace pole, an internationally recognized symbol.
