  • From Tom Koehler, Chair of the Board of Education: Budget and Bond

中文 Русский Soomaaliga Español Tiếng Việt

    Dear PPS Families and Staff:

Spring is approaching and it’s that time of year when we begin building budgets and plans for the next school year.

I spent Monday in Salem with a fellow board member, PPS principals and educators and school districts from across Oregon to advocate for additional resources to support K-12 education and our local schools. The state is facing a shortfall of approximately $1.7 billion and the budgets proposed for K-12 from the Governor and Legislature are not adequate to maintain current levels of services.

  • School ends Thursday, June 15 this year

中文 Русский Soomaaliga Español Tiếng Việt

March 7, 2017: The PPS Board of Education voted to change the April 7 teacher-planning day to an instructional day and to extend the school year to June 15.

Some charter schools may have different schedules and families should check with their schools.

Calendar change DOES NOT affect graduation dates for seniors.

These calendar adjustments are necessary because PPS schools were closed for nine instructional days due to winter weather in December and January.

  • Final Calendar Adjustments

中文 Русский Soomaaliga Español Tiếng Việt

We want to provide you an update on the school calendar.

As you know, PPS closed school for nine instructional days due to inclement weather in December and January.

In December the PPS Board voted to restore two days at the end of the year to make up for lost instruction earlier in December.

In January the Board also cancelled late openings and early releases for the remainder of the year, and extended the year by an additional day to June 14.

On Tuesday, March 7, the PPS Board will vote to convert the April 7 planning day into an instructional day and extend the school year by an additional day to Thursday, June 15.

We will let you know as soon as the PPS Board takes formal action on this recommendation.
