Adapted Physical Education

Adapted Physical Education (APE) is specially designed instruction for students who require adaptations and modifications to participate safely and successfully in the general Physical Education program.

APE teachers adapt and modify teaching instructions, the gym environment, equipment, and rules so all students can benefit from physical education. Adapted PE teachers provide a continuum of services ranging from direct service to consultation, assessment, program planning, advocacy, and behavior management strategies.

The definition of Adapted Physical Education includes physical and motor fitness, fundamental motor skills and patterns, skills in aquatics, dance, individual and group games and lifetime sports/activities.
