We want to hear from you about the 2017-18 budget for PPS! The Portland School Board has scheduled three listening sessions to take your comments on how we should allocate our dollars in the coming year.

Interim Superintendent Robert McKean presented his proposed budget to the Board on April 4. The budget is based on the assumption that the state will not provide enough funding for K-12 schools to cover our current level of services, so cuts are necessary. Under the superintendent’s proposal, central administration would take a higher share of cuts, with some of that money redirected into critical school programs, such as literacy, curriculum and health and safety. But cuts to schools also are part of the proposed budget.

More details can be found in the Powerpoint presented to the Board, or in the full budget.

    Here is the schedule:

    • April 11 – 6-9 p.m., Madison High School, 2735 NE 82nd Ave., Portland, OR 97220.
    • April 25 – 5-6 p.m., Blanchard Education Service Center, 501 N. Dixon St., Portland, OR 97227
    • May 9 – 5-6 p.m., Blanchard Education Service Center

The Board will hold a budget work session May 23, with final adoption expected in June.
