    Library Expectations and Student Agreements:

    1. The Golden Rule: Respect Each Other and Materials

    2. Be Responsible

    3. Be Safe

    5. Clean Up After Yourself

    Policy for checking out books:

Kindergarten checks out 1 book at any given time.

1st Grade starts off with checking out 1 book in September, and once we get back into a routine they begin checking out 2 books in October at any given time.

2nd Grade checks out 2 books at any given time; only 1 Graphic Novel (GNOV) out at a time.

3rd Grade checks out 3 books at any given time; only 2 Graphic Novels (GNOV) out at a time.

4/5 Grades checks out 5 books at any given time; only 2 Graphic Novels (GNOV) out at a time. 4/5 grades also have access to the Young Adult (YA) section, which is rated for middle school. We have conversations at the beginning of the year about this section and if students are not ready for these topics they should have conversations with their adults/families.

    Procedures for returning books:

    1. Students can return books to their classroom return bin/cart, which is brought to the Library on the morning of their class library day.
    2. Students can return books to the "Return Book Bin" located in the Library.

Procedures and Policies for dealing with late, missing, or damaged books:

    1. Students are verbally reminded of which books they have checked out.
    2. Students are only allowed the number of books allotted for their grade level to be checked out at any given time (i.e. 2nd grade is only allowed 2 books checked out at any given time).
    3. After a few weeks or when a student requests, I will send home a print out with the student’s name and titles that they need to look for (sent home via backpack).
    4. Parents are emailed 3 days before books are due (via automated District email).
    5. Parents are emailed daily (when applicable) Two Weeks Overdue Notice (via automated District email).
    6. Parents are emailed daily (when applicable) Four Weeks Overdue Notice (via automated District email).
    7. Chief Joseph Library Staff will send out late notices and Fine Notices will be sent home (via folder in backpack and/or report cards) 2-3 times throughout the year or upon student request.
    8. If a book is lost and in an effort to streamline the fine collection process, fines related to lost library books will be assessed at the end of the school year. As books often find their way back to the library or textbook office after initial assessments, we ask that students and families wait until the end of the year before settling any fines. This policy is designed to reduce the need for unnecessary refunds and will not impact a student’s ability to continue to check out books. If a book has been damaged beyond repair, please notify Mrs. Hall (via email or Remind) to discuss replacement options.
