George School News
We are getting ready for Wednesday, September 1st- Our first day back is almost here!
We are all a mix of nerves and excitement for the first day of school! Students and families can expect student schedules to be live tomorrow (August 31st) in ParentVue/StudentVue. On Wednesday and Thursday, students will spend the morning with their Advisory Teacher (Period 9 on their schedule). This will be a chance for them to connect with their Advisory teacher and class to build community, get school supplies, learn about George routines like lunch, recess, restrooms, etc… There will be lots of adults helping students find their Advisory class on the first day.
We have changed our breakfast routine to provide a safer environment for all. For students who are walking or getting dropped off by parents they can pick up breakfast in front of the main office beginning at 9:00 AM. Bus riders will get breakfast outside as they get off the bus. Students can eat breakfast outside and then head to Advisory when the doors open at 9:10 AM.
George is now a Verizon Innovative Learning School (VILS)!
We are very excited to announce a new program coming to George Middle School this year. Our building was chosen to be a Verizon Innovative Learning School (VILS). This is a nationwide initiative that puts technology in the hands of students, and transforms schools into innovative and exciting learning environments. The VILS mission is to help give millions of students the education they deserve, for a brighter future.
What does this mean for George students?
Verizon Innovative Learning provides free technology, free internet access, and hands-on learning experiences to help ensure the benefits of technology are realized by all. We equip every student and teacher with a Chromebook CTL device and up to a four-year data plan.
In addition to free technology and access, Verizon Innovative Learning schools receive extensive teacher training, support, and the opportunity to engage and leverage technology in their classrooms.
This is a very exciting opportunity for our teachers and students, and we are eager for the school year to start. The program helps students achieve, learn, and create more by delivering a new way of learning in school or at home.
Parents, we will need you to do two things:
- Please return last year’s chromebook and charger to school. We are asking students to bring any PPS devices charged and with them to school on September 2nd.
- Click here to go to the VILS at PPS website and fill out the chromebook form. When you fill out the chromebook form, we will be able to give your child their free device.
More information will be sent to you in the coming weeks, as staff and students begin to use our new devices. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school, and we will be happy to talk with you more.
Dear Mustang Families,
We are almost ready to return to school together full time and we cannot wait to welcome all our students back to our schoolhouse together on September 1st! The past 18 months have taught us so much and has given us an opportunity to rethink the possibilities for our school community. One thing is for sure, we are committed to making all our students and families feel a sense of belonging at school. We want everyone to be here, be themselves, and know that George Middle School belongs to all of us.
As we get ready to return to school on September 1st, here are some things you can expect in the coming weeks as we get ready:
Advisory Classes We learned that the best way to establish a sense of belonging for students is through small advisory classes. Advisory will be a place where students will learn about themselves, each other, and what it means to be a part of our school community. Students will spend a lot of time in the first two days of school in Advisory to learn about each other and all our school routines.
Student schedules will be live on ParentVue and StudentVue by August 31st
There will be lots of adults able to help direct students to their Advisory class on the first day of school.
On the first day of school, we will provide students with their supplies. Each George student will receive a backpack, a binder with dividers, pens, pencils, highlighters.
Students should bring a charged device to school everyday beginning on September 2nd.
Our staff is on duty when the doors open at 9:10 AM.
Students will be able to get breakfast and head directly to their Advisory class.
Health and Safety
Masks will be required for all staff and students at all times except when eating, drinking, or playing a musical instrument.
All PPS schools are following Standard Operating Procedures to create a layered approach to keep our students and staff healthy.
All George students receive a free breakfast and lunch each day.
Any food brought from home can be eaten only during lunch.
Students will eat lunch at cafeteria tables or outside under the covered area.
Fall Bus Route info is available here.
If you are driving your child to George, please drop them off at the main office doors.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email email@example.com.
We can’t wait to see all our Mustangs on September 1st!
