George Middle School Attendance Procedures
1. Attendance Codes
-
A – Absent
Used if a student is not present when the bell rings. This is the default code and will be updated once the student arrives or their attendance is cleared. This code will be left in place if a student is not present for 25% of the class period. -
L – Late
Student arrives within the first 10 minutes of class after the bell rings. -
LAT – Late After Tardy
Student arrives more than 10 minutes late to class. -
SKP – Skip
Used if a student:-
Leaves class without permission

Is gone from class for an extended period
-
Is known to be at school but not in class
-
2. To Excuse Full-Day Absences:
-
Submit via ParentVUE before the start of the school day. (If you need to activate your ParentVue account, please contact the Main Office at 503-916-6262.)

⚠️ Important Note:
We do not get notified when notes are added to ParentVUE. Please do not leave messages in the Note field—they will not be seen.For step-by-step instructions, please use the ParentVue Absence Reporting Guide.
3. To Excuse Partial-Day (late arrivals, early pick-ups) & Recent Absences:

Use the GMS Absence Reporting Google Form.

Please do not call or email if you have already submitted the form.
-
Submissions before 3:30 PM will be processed the same day.
-
Submissions after 3:30 PM will be processed the next school day.

Use this form for:
-
Current day partial excused absences
-
Future day partial excused absences
-
Past absences (up to 3 days ago)
-
4. Arriving Late to School
-
Students who arrive late must sign in at the Main Office and receive a pink slip to give to their teacher.

Failure to check in will result in an unexcused absence (A) for the missed classes.
5. Leaving School During the Day
-
Students must sign out in person at the Main Office before leaving.

For pre-arranged pickups:
-
Submit the absence in advance using the reporting form.
-
You can come into the building or call the main office when you have arrived to pick up your student.

6. Returning to School During the Day
-
Students must sign in at the Main Office and take a pink slip to their current teacher.
-
The Main Office or Teacher will adjust attendance with the appropriate code.
7. Robocalls and Attendance Notifications
-
Robocalls/Texts go out twice daily:
-
1:00 PM – for unexcused absences from earlier in the day
-
5:30 PM – for unexcused absences for the entire school day
-
These calls are generated automatically by the district (not the school).
Codes that trigger robocalls:
-
A – Absent
-
LAT – Late After Tardy (missed more than 25% of the class)
-
SKP – Skip
8. What to Do If You Receive a Robocall/Text
-
If the absence is excused but not yet cleared:
→ Submit the Absence Reporting Form -
If your student believes the absence is in error:
→ They should speak directly with the teacher who marked them absent. -
