    7 from PPS receive Lifetime Achievement Awards at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. tribute

    Seven community members with connections to Portland Public Schools were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award on Monday as part of the 35th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute event at the Highland Christian Center.

    Girls wrestling continues to grow into a competitive sport

    ESPN calls it one of the fastest growing sports in high schools. The Oregon School Activities Association added the sport to their championships for the first time last year. Girls wrestling is on the rise, and Lincoln High School has one of the highest participation rates in the PIL. For many girls, wrestling isn’t so much about brawn, but technique.

    Information night will support families dealing with substance use and addiction

    Substance use and addiction are confusing and difficult issues for the person experiencing them and for those who love and care about the person who is impacted. To help Portland Public Schools families of students dealing with substance use, we will host our first district-wide Family Information Night.

    Wilson High senior wins award for helping save woman’s life

    A Wilson High School senior was honored for her efforts in saving a woman’s life last summer. Rivkah Zigman received the Red Cross Lifesaving Award for Professional Responders last week at a ceremony during an American Red Cross Cascades Region board meeting.

    Annual survey of students, families and staff set to begin

    Next week Portland Public Schools will begin the annual survey that allows us to gather data to make informed decisions about school climate and culture. The Successful Schools Survey begins on Monday, Jan. 27.
