Invitation: PPS Instructional Vision Overview
7/14/2022Dear PPS Families,
Portland Public Schools is committed to providing all students with high-quality instruction that helps students in all grades achieve our Graduate Portrait. We are taking important steps for next school year to ensure high-quality teaching and learning in every classroom, every day. We are introducing new, culturally relevant curriculum materials and a new instructional framework to provide teachers the tools they need.
This summer, we are inviting you to join a community learning session and discussion about our instructional vision and roadmap toward equity for all students. This event will be in early August - please fill out this interest form by July 25th if you are interested in attending this event or any future events.
In partnership with teachers, school leaders, and staff from across the district, we’re working to make our vision a reality for all students, including an instructional framework that details our shared vision of teaching and learning, introducing new curriculum materials to support classroom instruction, and offering aligned training experiences for teachers to support both. Below are more details and you can learn more on this 1-page overview and this video.
Instructional Framework:
We’ve developed an Instructional Framework for equity across four focus areas that include indicators that students should experience in all of their classes — a shared vision of what teaching and learning looks like in PPS. Within the framework, instruction should be grade level & standards aligned, culturally affirming, deeply engaging, and data driven.
Curriculum Adoption:
We will implement updated, culturally-relevant curricular materials for English Language Arts and Math at all levels by the start of the 2022-23 school year, and in all core subjects over the next three years.
Teacher Professional Learning:
The Instructional Framework and Curriculum Adoptions will be the foundation of a year-long arc of learning for educators that includes summer sessions, pre-service training, ongoing classroom coaching, and cross-district learning groups.
We’d love to share more and discuss with you - please fill out this interest form by July 25th if you are interested in attending future events.
Thank you and have a wonderful summer,
