Cell Phone Policy
Expectation: Per district policy cell phones should not be in use during the school year. Phones and other personal electronic devices should be powered off and put in lockers for the duration of the school day. Phones may be powered on after the bell at 4:00. Please note policies around after-school activities will be established in partnership with our SUN program, community partners, etc. After school expectations will be shared with students and families as applicable.
Misuse:
1st Instance- Staff member will re-teach the rule, document with a minor/stage one referral, communicate home and opt to do one of the following:
-Ask the student for the phone and secure it within their classroom for the day
-Have student put cell phone in their locker
-Send the student to the office where they will turn it in for the day.
2nd Instance- Staff member will document with a major/stage two referral, communicate with parents/guardians and send the student to the office to meet with an Admin or the Climate Specialist. The student’s phone will be secured in the office for the remainder of the day, as well as the rest of the week. Please note students will be able to pick up the phone upon departure daily. This will be documented with a referral as well as entered in the district prohibited item Google form/log.
3rd Instance- Staff member will send the student to the office. A major/stage two referral will be written. The confiscation will be logged in the district’s prohibited Item Google form. Parents will be asked to conference and develop a plan moving forward. The student’s phone will be turned in daily for a time outlined in the plan developed with parents.
Parents/guardians who need to contact their student in the event of an emergency should call the main office at 503.916.5700. If you need to contact your student with a message about pickup, change in plans, etc. you are welcome to call the office and we will do our best to relay the message before the end of the day.
Let’s all be ACCOUNTABLE, SAFE, and KIND by putting our phones off and away during the school day.
