• Who I Am


    Hi there! My name is Jazmin Otegui. I am a counselor for Portland Evening & Summer Scholars. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and then moved to Los Angeles, California when I was 5 years old. I graduated from CSU Channel Islands with my B.A. in Psychology and minor in Chicano Studies. After graduating college, I moved to Portland, Oregon to pursue graduate school. I am currently in my final months of graduate school, working towards getting my Masters in Education in School Counseling at Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling. As a new counselor in the field, I am eager to learn each day from our students and fellow educators that walk through the halls of our school. I hope to work closely with our students, their families, and stakeholders to provide them the most successful path possible!

    At Portland Evening & Summer Scholars, we aim to promote an inclusive school environment in which every student is held to the same high expectations and receive unconditional positive regard along the way through their path - regardless of their background or differences. In addition making sure the students feel valued and appreciated each day they walk into the school. We want all of our students to thrive personally, socially, and academically.

    My Role

    Build relationships with students, families, and stakeholders. I want to open my office to students and their families who need extra support connecting to their school community due to language barriers. Provide a comprehensive school counseling program to improve attendance, grades, and overall success towards the transition to graduation and after high school. Assist students in planning out life after high school graduation (community college, university, trade schools, jobs, internships, etc). Providing students opportunities to explore paths during their time at PES.

    Provide support for students, families, and stakeholders in the building. Be in constant collaboration and open communication with families, teachers, and their comprehensive counselor to help the overall success of the student. Provide individual and group check ins with students - being available to talk and listen when it comes to their personal and social development as well, not just academic. Demonstrate a commitment to an equity- and cultural-lens with the students I work with.
