If you're new to Abernethy, nearly new to Abernethy, or so familiar to our school that you named your dogs Abber and Nethy, come by and enjoy a treat. Say hello to new faces and help assuage those first-day jitters for parents and kids alike. Meet at the gazebo!
- Curriculum Night
- Tour de Ladd
- Book Fair
- Kids Holiday Shoppe (Nov. 15th is the craft night to prepare for the event. Dec. 5 & 6 students will get to shop with their classrooms)
Each December Abernethy students shop at a "Holiday Bazaar" in the Abernethy Library which is full of inexpensive craft gifts that have been created by Abernethy parents and friends. Items cost between 10 cents and $1.00, with most things in the 25-50 cents range. The kids have great fun selecting gifts for family and friends that they can easily afford to purchase with their own money. This event is a delightful tradition that has been a part of the Abernethy calendar for many decades.
- Abernethy Auction (February 10, 2018 5:30 - 11:00 PM)
This activity is for the adults!! Our annual fundraising event is an opportunity for the parents, teachers and friends of Abernethy to get together socially, enjoy fine food and wine, and benefit the school by bidding on goods and services which have been donated to the auction. It's not only a really fun evening but also Abernethy's most successful fundraiser.
- Chili Cook-off (April 26, 2018)
- School Carnival Friday (May 18th, 2018)
The school carnival is a fun and much-anticipated annual event. The Carnival is organized by Abernethy parent volunteers, and the actual event is staffed by all the members of the Abernethy Community -- teachers, administrators, staff, parents and neighbors. The Carnival has great activities, games and prizes. While the Carnival is not budgeted as a "fund-raiser", it often raises more money that it spends. In year's past, the carnival has donated funds to purchase new PE equipment and instruments for the Music Program.
- Fun Run
- Field Day (June 7th. If days are added to the school calendar June 11)
Each Spring students particapte in non-competitive, athletically challenging Field Day activitites for Abernethy students. The students are grouped into mixed-age "teams", where the older kids help out the younger students at the various activity centers. Field Day challenges can include everything from relay races to ball-kicking to basketball hoop, to hopscotch! The parents and teachers assist at each of the stations, and there are treats at the end of the day to reward everybody for their efforts.
