Volunteer
Volunteering is an excellent way to learn more about your child’s school, build community and enhance your child’s school experience. At the beginning of the year, students bring home packets that have volunteer sihttps://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/MjY3ODplbi1VUw==gn up forms. By selecting the events that you think you’d like to help with, you will be put into the volunteer database. You will be contacted by a committee chair or by another volunteer. We have a range of opportunities both short and longer term and will work with you to find a way that respects your schedule. All volunteering is extremely rewarding and appreciated!

Short Term Projects

Help put together our school directory and keep our list serve up-to-date. Great volunteer opportunity for those who can't make it into the school as often as you'd like. - Grounds maintenance - selected Saturday mornings
Help maintain school grounds by weeding, spreading bark mulch and planting. Help maintain school grounds by weeding, spreading bark mulch and planting. A great family day! - Vision screening
Help maintain flow as students get their eyes tested. - Kindergarten Roundup - February
Attract new students to our school by working with kindergarten teachers to plan and publicize round up. Greet new families, serve refreshments, and provide childcare for our new Abernethy Kindergartners. - PTA Clothes Closet
Help staff the school district’s donation center assisting students with clothing selections from the PTA Clothes Center. Clothing donations can be made at Abernethy throughout the year, watch for signs. - Abernethy Auction - spring
Help set up, decorate, make or serve food. An incredible evening and Abernethy's largest fundraiser. - Abernethy Run for the Arts - spring
This event raises money for our special arts programs. Volunteers needed to mark laps, hand out drinks, and cheer on the runners.
Ongoing Projects
- Classroom Volunteer
Contact your child's teacher to find out how you can help in the classroom. From help with reading, writing or math to assisting with field trips, classroom volunteers are indispensable! - Abernethy Café
Help in the scratch kitchen preparing nutritious food for student lunches. A food handlers card is requested for this task. Ongoing help for the students is also needed during the lunch hour. - Banking Day
Organize deposits into students’ Chasel savings accounts and hand out prizes. Banking happens Wednesday mornings from 8:15 to 9:15 throughout the year. - Library Aide
Love books? Volunteers help keep the library up and running. Training is provided. Contact our Librarian.
