Benson High School - School Climate Planning
Dear Benson Polytechnic H.S. Parents, Guardians, and Community members,
By clicking the links, you can find information on Benson H.S. Discipline and Student Support Philosophy and Portland Public Schools "Student Responsibilities, Rights, and Discipline Handbook.
The current Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook can be found in multiple languages on the following page: https://www.pps.net/Page/1065
The District collaborated with the Portland Association of Teachers to create this document to align with recent changes in State Law (SB 553). All schools are concurrently engaged in a process of creating school specific School Climate Plan Handbooks in collaboration with staff, students, families, and community partners to meet the unique needs of each school community.
If you are interested in continuing to provide your thoughts and help shape Benson's School Climate Plan, please view the Core Value Matrix that was developed with input from our staff, students, community members, and alumni. View the mobile version here or the desktop version here
Our School Climate Team (SCT) has compiled and attached our work on the School Climate Plan (SCP) which is our School-Wide Values = School-Wide Rules and Expectations of our staff and students. Our SCP is taught by all teachers, posted in everyone's classrooms/shops and around the school in hallways and offices.
Please review the Benson School Climate Plan and look for any ideas/values, etc. that you believe were left off and should be included, slightly changed or reworded for clarity, or removed because you believe it contradicts the restorative practices or Positive Behavior Intervention Supports philosophy. You can provide your feedback two ways:
Please click this link in blue letter "fill it out in Google Forms" to complete and submit the Benson SCP Survey: you can fill it out in Google Forms. Or, print out your copy of the matrix and write your feedback and send it to Mr. Phillips at bphillips@pps.net
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and contribution to our shared community values that are the foundation of our School Climate Plan.
Sincerely, Benson's School Climate Team
