PPS continues work to upgrade school roofs
11/26/2019Replacing leaking and deteriorated roofs in Portland Public Schools has been a priority for voters since the 2012 School Building Improvement Bond. Twenty-one new roof projects were completed through the 2012 Bond, and that effort continues thanks to the 2017 Health and Safety Bond. -
Four PPS students who overcame hardships earn ‘Beat the Odds’ scholarships
11/26/2019Four high school students from Portland Public Schools who have excelled academically despite hardships have been named Renaissance Scholars and recipients of $16,000 “Beat the Odds” college scholarships.

Nichole Berg starts climate justice work in PPS in first-of-its-kind position
11/26/2019Earlier this year, Nichole Berg was scrolling through Facebook while visiting family when she came upon something that would change her life: a job description. The life-long Wisconsinite, then a vice principal at a Madison middle school, read about a position in Portland Public Schools she had never heard of before: Programs Manager for Climate Change and Climate Justice.

Franklin boys soccer team makes history by winning state championship
11/18/2019The Franklin High School boys soccer team made history Saturday, winning a state championship for the first time in program history, with a 2-1 overtime win over Summit in the Class 6A final at Hillsboro Stadium. -

With early snow in at least one forecast, time for a reminder on how to stay updated
11/12/2019Meteorologist Rod Hill of KGW recently issued a winter forecast that projected 8 to 10 inches of snow, including possible early snow in November or December. If that turns out to be correct, that would be much earlier snow than last school year, when our first weather-caused disruption to the regular classroom schedule did not come until Feb. 5.

Franklin students get construction job site experience
11/1/2019Franklin High School students Nathan Arzate, Giacomo Bordignon and Dora Manzotti had a unique opportunity to go behind the fences and see what really goes on at a major construction site. Their visit to the new Kellogg Middle School site was part of Portland Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) work-based learning program.
