November 4, 2020
Dear Maplewood Families,
I hope you are all healthy and doing well as we continue to move through this school year with our distance learning. We are now in November which is always a busy month at school. The end of the term is this Thursday. No school on Friday as it is a teacher work day. Next Wednesday is Veteran’s Day- no school. Later in the month we have conferences and then Thanksgiving. That puts us into December. November is always a time for us to be thankful- even in these challenging times, I am able to find so many things for which I am thankful. Our Maplewood community is strong and I am so grateful for the support I have seen from families, staff and students. We are resilient and will get through all of this.
Counseling Office:
Over Thanksgiving break Maplewood Helping Hands is offering large food baskets of non-perishable foods. These will be much bigger than the weekly baskets offered and include items like cereal, beans, pasta, soups, and canned veggies. Baskets will be available for pick up at Maplewood on Wednesday, November 18th from 3-5:30pm (book distribution time). If you are unable to get to Maplewood, we can arrange a delivery. Please contact Kendall Cunningham, our school counselor, at
kcunninhamparm@pps.net or 971-378-0434 with the number of adults and kids in your household and any dietary restrictions.
If you'd like to donate food to this project, please use this link. You can drop off your food donations at the main Maplewood entrance today, Wednesday 11/4 between 3-5:30. Check the linked google doc to see other times and places to drop donations. Thanks!
Toolbox Tool for the Month:
November: Please and Thank You tool: I treat others with kindness and appreciation.
This month, we focus on the please and thank you tool. This tool helps us build community and show appreciation for those around us who help us. Our kindness tool is represented by a set of keys. As we learn the names of all the staff and students at Maplewood, encourage your student to use names and then use their please and thank you tool. Here are some places students can use this tool: in their online classes, at book distribution, or any time you visit the school.

ParentVUE:
Synergy is currently experiencing technical difficulties with the ParentVUE Mobile App. Parents completing the Yearly Verification process will get an error when they click on Begin Yearly Verification using the mobile app. This has been reported to the vendor with no ETA on a fix. Current workaround is to have parents complete Yearly Verification on a desktop or laptop computer or using the web link parentvue.pps.net on their phone browser instead of the app. Contact support@pps.net for further assistance.
