The City of Portland’s Safe Routes to School program encourages families to use active transportation (typically walking or biking) as a safe, convenient, accessible and desirable option for getting to and from school. It needs your help.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is conducting its annual survey to gather information to help guide Safe Routes to School. The survey helps PBOT prioritize safety projects and secure grant funding for safety and infrastructure improvement throughout Portland.

The survey is now open and closes Friday, November 8. It is intended for families with students in kindergarten through eighth grade. According to PBOT, it takes about 4 minutes to complete.

In previous years, the survey was conducted through a mailed paper form, but PBOT has changed to an online version. PBOT is offering to send staff with computers and tables to schools to make the survey available to families, with PBOT staff help, during school-sponsored events. Schools interested should email saferoutes@portlandoregon.gov.

School-by-school results from the 2018 survey are available on the PBOT website.

Any school that has a survey participation of 20% or higher will receive a $100 gift card for supplies from PBOT.
