    With five months left in their K-12 careers, high school seniors in Portland Public Schools probably feel like they’re in a sprint to the finish line. For the almost 3,000 PPS students who will graduate this spring, that finish line is a graduation ceremony.

    Holidays give PPS performers a chance to shine

    The holiday season was a great time for musicians and performers in PPS to shine. Here’s a sampling of holiday performances involving our students, from the Wilson High School Jazz Band at Pioneer Courthouse Square; the Franklin High School dance program; and the da Vinci Middle School Music Concert featuring African drumming and a choir performance.     Sports Update: Franklin sweeps All-State awards in boys soccer

    The Franklin High School boys soccer team made history this fall by winning the first state championship in program history. Last week, the Lightning reaped some big rewards for their outstanding season, winning both major awards on the Class 6A All-State teams.

    Candidates sought for program that trains bilingual community members to be teachers

    Are you a bilingual college graduate or near college graduate who would like to make a difference in students’ lives? Portland Public Schools is recruiting candidates for its Dual Language Teacher Residency Program. The program helps prepare prospective educators for careers as bilingual teachers.
