After School Activities - for a more complete list and a Youth Sports League guide
Art4Life is very excited about being a part of the Abernethy community as its before and after school Arts program. The focus is on introducing children to the Arts such as visual art, literature, music, dance, theatre, film, etc. They also introduce them to the city and go to the symphony, ballet, art museum, parks, theatres, and connect with our community in giving ways as well. They hope to visit the assisted living home on Division monthly. They also focus on other cultures, studying a different country each month and sampling food from that country every Friday. They make time for outdoor play, snacks, homework and reading too.
Enrollment/Info packets are available in the Abernethy school office. For more information, please visit their website or call 971-998-3352.
GAP Garden After School Program
The Garden Afterschool Program (GAP) was created by the Abernethy PTA in 2015 to extend and support the education provided through School Kitchen Garden. Administration of the Garden Afterschool Program is all volunteer, and the proceeds are in support of the PTA.
We partner with Green Schoolhouse, who provides GAP educators and programming. The program is held in the garden classroom and the Garden of Wonders every weekday after school and is open to kindergarteners through 5th graders. Wholesome snacks and plenty of outdoor time are offered in between garden, art, and cooking activities.

Soccer Shots is offering fun, non competitive soccer skills classes for kids in K-2nd grade after school on Thursdays this Fall at Abernethy Elementary School. Soccer Shots will meet once a week at Abernethy to provide a high energy, fun introduction to soccer. Soccer Shots is not a league: we are a 45 minute after school class that uses a creative, age appropriate curriculum to introduce basic soccer skills. We take the game further with a focus on character development by introducing character words each week. If you have any questions about the class or Soccer Shots feel free to contact Soccer Shots at email@example.com or by calling (503) 913-4542. To register, visit pdx.ssreg.org. Classes will go live on August 19!
Now in its 5th year at Abernethy, NeoGeo is back with more opportunities for students to learn about the earth and have fun with their friends. Led by PPS volunteer and neighbor Rex Fisher, the club meets on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays for one hour after school (3:00 – 4:00 p.m.) in the library. We cover current topics in geography, earth science, astronomy and meteorology. Each session includes a 20-minute lesson and plenty of time for students to explore the world on their own on using the school’s Chromebooks. There is no charge for attendance and all students are welcome, but the youngest students may need the assistance of an older sibling or caregiver. To sign up email Rex (neogeo-signup [at] outlook [dot] com), and put “Abernethy” in the subject line. Classes begin September 20. Hope to see you there!
