Dear Beach Parents and Community,
I hope you got to enjoy the snow with your child this week!
We are in process of (re)forming our Beach Site Council. A site council is made up of teachers, parents, non-certified staff, administrators and community members working together to increase student learning and enact our school mission.
We are hoping to form a racially diverse and representative team. We will hold our first meeting prior to Spring Break, tentatively Monday, March 18 at 4:30. Thus, we are striving to establish our parent and community membership in the next few weeks (staff membership is in place). If you are interested in being a member of our site council, please complete the Parent Representative Nomination Form. Forms are due Friday, March 8.
We will post information about site council membership and meetings on our website so parents and staff can communicate questions or concerns to the members prior to the meeting.
We would hold meetings once per month, possibly 3rd Monday of the month at 4:30, in April, May and June, then start right back up in September next school year.

The new mascot and nickname for Franklin High School will be Lightning. The process to determine a new identity for the school was finalized Tuesday, when the Portland Public Schools Board of Education unanimously approved Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero’s recommendation.
Dear PPS Community,
We have come to the end of what has been an ambitious and groundbreaking school year at the Portland Public Schools. I want to offer my heartfelt thanks to our amazing students, their supportive families, our dedicated teachers, hardworking support staff and dynamic school and district leaders who made it all work.
This summer promises to be the biggest of the PPS bond program so far. School modernization and improvement projects will touch almost every school over the coming months with security upgrades, new roofs, asbestos remediation, new fire alarms, ADA improvements and a seismic retrofit in the works.
