• Celebrating Our Classified and Non-Represented Employees

    Dear PPS Employees,

Last Tuesday, the Board of Education unanimously and enthusiastically approved Resolution 6250 honoring our classified and non-represented employees and declaring March 1-5, 2021 as Classified and Non-Represented Employee Appreciation Week here at Portland Public Schools.

This week is a time to celebrate and thank these important members of our school system. Classified and non-represented employees are the most racially diverse employee groups at Portland Public Schools, and their dedication to front line work over the past year is especially notable, given that communities of color have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

Classified employees include members of our valued labor partners from:

    • Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU): bus drivers and dispatchers
    • District Council of Unions (DCU): skilled maintenance, including painters, electricians, carpenters; warehouse workers and television services
    • Portland Federation of School Professionals (PFSP): administrative assistants, school secretaries, paraeducators, ea’s, therapeutic intervention coaches, occupational and physical therapists, sign language interpreters, campus safety associates, study hall monitors, community agents, and others
    • Service Employees International Union (SEIU): nutrition services and custodians

Non-represented employees include members of our instructional and operational central office teams including analysts, associates, coordinators, program and project managers and directors in technology, financial services, student support services, human resources, teaching and learning, communications, government relations, general counsel, strategic partnerships and engagement, security services, nutrition services, transportation, enrollment & transfer, and many more.

At PPS, we are all Educators. Whether you serve meals to students, maintain our school grounds, repair facilities, clean and maintain buildings, translate and interpret messages and meetings, provide clerical support, or work directly with students, you embody the PPS Vision reImagined Educator Essentials in your daily work.

On behalf of all those who benefit from your hard work and dedication, thank you for all you do in support of the students and families we serve every day.

    With much appreciation,

    Guadalupe Guerrero
