West Sylvan Foundation History
The Foundation was formed in 1994 by a group of parents in search of a way to support West Sylvan in a time of financial crisis. Budget cuts as a result of the passage of Measure 5 in the same year, created serious financial challenges for the Portland Public School District. This forward-thinking group of parents took the first steps to building a strong foundation for the future. Thanks to their vision, the West Sylvan Foundation was established to provide funds to help reduce class size and provide for a wider range of electives. The Foundation’s goal is to assist in assuring that every student at West Sylvan receives a well-rounded educational experience.
