    SUN Fall Session Begins Today!

    Here are some additional announcements about some upcoming opportunities. 

    BPI (Black Parent Initiative) - Parent Affinity Group

    Meeting 2nd Wednesday of the Month at Kelly Annex in room 28, 6:00pm - 7:30pm; Dates are: October 9th, November 13th, December 11th, January 8th, February 12th, March 11th, April 8th, May 13th, June 10th.

     

    Morning Adult Sewing Class starts on Monday October 14th!

     

    PORTLAND FOOD PROJECT NEEDS VOLUNTEERS!

    Saturday, October 12th, between 10:00am - 2:00pm, 

    at NE Food Pantry located at 4800 NE 72nd Ave, Portland, OR 97218

    You want to give to our community?  There is no better event then the Portland Food Project (PFP).  Every two months on the second Saturday of the month community members bring in thousands of pounds of food that gets distributed to over 16 pantries in the Portland area. KELLY FOOD PANTRY IS ONE OF THEM.  Join us this upcoming Saturday and help not just our Kelly families but also the community, as our pantry is opened to everyone.

    Fall SUN Session 2019

    October 7th - November 21st, Monday -Thursday, 3:00pm - 5:30pm

    Confirmation Letters will go home on Thursday October 3rd.

    If a student has turned in a SUN registration form, but does not receive a Confirmation letter it means they do not have any SUN classes and families will be notified by phone.

    Kindness Club

    Year long SUN after school class meeting on Wednesday, 3:00pm - 5:30PM.  Kindness Club is based on Second Step, a program rooted in social-emotional learning (SEL) that helps transform schools into supportive, successful learning environments uniquely equipped to encourage children to thrive.  Students practice skills like empathy, emotion management, problem solving, friendship skills, and assertiveness.

    Girls’ Inc

    Program offers gender specific weekly groups to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls.  Volunteers bring the Girls’ Inc experience to girls and equip them to navigate gender, economic and social barriers, and help them to grow into healthy, educated and independent adults.  The groups are run through the SUN program October 9th, 2019 - May 21st, 2020 on Wednesday, 4:00pm - 5:30pm.

    Chess for Success 

    Runs through the SUN after school program.  Once registered students will meet between October 8th, 2019 - March 15th, 2020 on Tuesday and Wednesday, 3:00pm - 4:30pm. 

    The program has weekend opportunities for chess tournaments (practice, girls and regional).

     

     

    SUN stands for Schools Uniting Neighborhoods. SUN Community Schools are the school-based delivery sites for a comprehensive set of services including educational, enrichment, recreational, social and health services. This nationally recognized system of care works to ensure families are healthy so they can champion and support their children. The SUN Service System collaboration is managed by Multnomah County http://web.multco.us/sun/sun-community-schools and services are delivered by Latino Network www.latnet.org

     

    SUN Community Schools is a place and support hub where schools and communities work together to support the success of children and families and provide a comprehensive array of services. They serve as the vehicle to link a school with community institutions, such as libraries, parks, community centers, neighborhood health clinics, local churches and businesses.

     

    WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR KELLY STUDENTS AND FAMILIES?

    Latino Network SUN staff will have an office at Kelly in order to coordinate:

    •  After school programming (Fall, Winter, and Spring)
    • Summer Programming
    • Adult educational opportunities
    • Family and community outreach events
    • On-site support staff to help students and parents/guardians navigate school and community arenas

    Resources

     

    SUN Office 

    Located at Kelly Center Head Start building in room #28.  If you have questions about the SUN programing, are in need of support with housing, rental, electricity, water or you need more information about resources available in the community the SUN Office is the place to go.  You can contact SUN Site Manager Cristina Helvie at cristina@latnet.org or (503)780-9813.

     

    P-3 Coordinator Office 

    Located at Kelly Center Head Start Building in room #29. Here you can connect with Emma Mauermann about early learning opportunities/information, kindergarten transition supports, adult classes, community resources and more. The space is often available as a meeting space when needed and there is a laptop with a wifi for community use.     Parent Resource Room 

    Located at Kelly Center Head Start building in room #28 has access to internet, free meeting space with a child-friendly area, opportunities to connect with other parents and SUN staff, receive valuable information about the school, available resources, SUN programming and more.

     

    Food Pantry 

    Located at Kelly Center Head Start building in room 15 is open on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month from 3:30pm-5:00pm unless otherwise noted. If you are in need of food we are here to support you. The pantry is open to the entire community and no pre-registration or proof of income is required.
