Program Information
Early Kindergarten Transition (EKT) is a three-week summer program to help you and your child have a great start to school.
- Students are in class from 8 am to 12 noon, Monday through Friday.
- Families/caregivers are provided with educational training twice a week during EKT.
- Child care for siblings is available during family/caregiver sessions.
- Students receive free breakfast and lunch, books, and school supplies.
- Sponsored by Portland Public Schools in partnership with Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN).

Apply for EKT after you register your child for Kindergarten this fall at one of the following schools. Please note that some schools will be hosting their EKT program at another school site due to scheduled building maintenance.

Program Eligibility: Our Pre-Kindergarten programs are funded through Preschool Promise, Preschool for All and Head Start grants with priority populations including:
- Children from families affected by homelessness, incarceration, substance abuse, mental health issues, and domestic violence;
- Migrant and refugee families;
- Children who speak languages other than English;
- Children who experience developmental delays and disabilities;
- Children of teen parents or military families;
- Children living in foster care;
- Children enrolled in a Title VI Indian Education Program or organization.
Applicants who do not meet these priority enrollment criteria may be placed in a waiting pool for enrollment consideration in late summer or early fall. Some PPS Pre-K and Head Start programs are income-restricted and others give priority to family incomes below the Oregon self-sufficiency index.ONLINE REGISTRATION: Online Registration
