Dec 2023 Board Resolution calls for project review.

On December 12th, the PPS Board of Education passed RESOLUTION No. 6806 that directed the Office of School Modernization to reassess the current Jefferson High School site plan, so that its students and staff will not relocate to another site during construction.
Jefferson's students will remain at Jeff for the 2024-25 school year and beyond until the new building is completed.

The design team will return to the Board of Education on April 2nd, 2024 with an updated plan that, per the resolution, will:
    • Keep students & staff largely on the Jefferson campus during construction.
    • Include a targeted student enrollment of 1,700.
    • Demolish the 1909 building and build a new building.
    • Seek to conform to PPS’s current high school education specifications area program

Jefferson Modernization Project History - Conceptual Master Planning 2019
In late 2019, after a series of public meetings over a four-month period, a Jefferson High School Conceptual Master Plan was completed as part of the planning effort for the 2020 Bond. The work was done through a Conceptual Master Planning Committee (CMPC), a group of school and community stakeholder representatives who worked together to help provide feedback for the Conceptual Jefferson master plan.  This conceptual plan will be used as the starting point for the new Jefferson Modernization Master Plan, but the new Master Planning Committee (MPC) will not be restricted by those plans. • Harriet Tubman Relocation & Jefferson
Due to the I-5 freeway expansion, Harriet Tubman Middle School is relocating. The PPS School Board is considering constructing a new Tubman MS and a KairosPDX facility on two parcels, including the Jefferson HS South Lot. This option will reduce Jefferson HS’s athletic facilities, as required by PPS HS Educational Specifications, and other planned improvements on the South Lot.

As of May 10th 2023, PPS has postponed any decision on the Tubman relocation to revisit whether any other previously-not-considered sites are viable.
