Alameda Elementary Junior Green Team
What is the Junior Green Team?
The Alameda Junior Green Team is a free after school program for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders that meets monthly to discuss and work on projects related to sustainability, reducing waste and carbon footprints, and recycling. The team is led by parent volunteers and Mrs. Caton.
How does it work?
3rd, 4th and 5th grade students who have parental permission to participate, will meet monthly after school (usually the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 3:10-4:00 p.m.) with parent volunteers and Mrs. Caton. Together the group will decided on activities or projects to work on using data from a recent "trash audit" at Alameda. Potential activities could include: preparing and giving presentations to other classes, learning about materials used at school and where they come from and where they go when we’re done with them, supporting the lunchtime Organics program, participation at the Oregon Green Schools Conference, and brainstorming other ideas to increase awareness and inspire action in the area of sustainability.
