A lot of information has come out recently from the Southeast Guiding Coalition, and I want to make sure you have received the most recent information and updates.
- CSS Current Students: There has been some confusion about whether or not current CSS families will be able to remain enrolled at CSS, if the school moves to a new location. The district has published a CSS Q&A now available on our website and at this link. The document states: “All current K-7 CSS students would have the opportunity to enroll at the new location or could return to the neighborhood school for their home address.” I hope this clarification will resolve any confusion about enrollment for CSS families in the proposals.
- Community Engagement Opportunities: PPS has released information and dates for community engagement and input on the proposals. The upcoming feedback session dates and times can be found here. Input sessions will begin next week.
- Proposal Details: More detailed information about the two proposed locations for a CSS relocation can be found here at the PPS Enrollment and Program Balancing Website.
- SEGC Meeting Thursday November 4th (6-9PM): The Southeast Guiding Coalition will meet this Thursday from 6-9pm. The meeting will be live streamed on Youtube for community members to view. The link to the livestream this Thursday can be located on the PPS Enrollment and Program Balancing Website.
I hope this information will be helpful, and I will continue to keep our community informed as I receive information.

One of my favorite parts of the fall is soccer season. I played soccer most of my youth and this fall I enjoyed watching two of my kids playing on their high school team and ended up being assistant coach of my youngest son's team the Thunder Unicorns. One of the highlights of my week was playing goalie for our scrimmage at the end of practice, although I did let a few goals in. I hope you are also enjoying your fall traditions in your community.
Next Thursday (10/28), the Southeast Guiding Coalition will release proposed scenarios on rebalancing in Southeast schools to the public. As a result, we are shifting the K-2 coffee chat to be open to all K-8 families to stop by. Area Senior Director, Karl Logan, will be present as well to help provide information about the scenarios and answer questions.
Have a restful weekend.

I can imagine the start of school next week is full of mixed emotions for many of our students and families. I have been experiencing many emotions myself as a principal new to the community and supporting the return to full time in person learning. Our staff is eager to welcome students back to school and have been working tirelessly to create a safe and welcoming space for your students. We care deeply for the well being and safety of our community and have done our best to create processes aligned with district and state guidance with the resources and staffing we have at CSS.
Below is an overview of some of the updated safety procedures we will have in place for the start of school. More detailed procedures will be shared prior to the start of school for you to review with your students. Students will also be given mini lessons during the first week of school in all classes to ensure all students have an opportunity to learn and practice our safety protocols as they transition into the school setting. There is also a link to survey for you to share your questions and concerns, so we can continue to be responsive to the needs of our community.
As a reminder, our Community Care Day and Ice Cream Social are this Saturday, August 28th at 9 am. I look forward to meeting you and your students in the coming week.

It is with great pleasure that I write to you as your incoming principal of Creative Science School. I am honored to become part of the CSS community and vision of building critical thinkers, courageous problem-solvers and compassionate community-builders.
This year I begin my 19th year as an educator, and I still am full of excitement and anticipation to greet students and staff at the start of the school year. I hope to get to know you and your students this year. I am a parent of six children, and like many of you, am starting our annual back to school rituals to get prepared for the 21-22 school year. This fall my oldest child will be starting his junior year at OSU, and my youngest will be starting 4th grade. While I am hopeful for a healthy start to the school year, like many of you, I have questions and concerns about what the upcoming year will hold.
PPS has recently shared their multi-layered approach to supporting the safe return of students to school this September which can be viewed on the PPS website. Be assured, our team is working diligently to set up social distancing protocols and cleaning procedures in accordance with district guidelines. More specific information about these procedures and guidelines will be shared prior to the start of school. We continue to work with our local health officials to support and implement safe practices to help our whole community to reduce the risk of the spread of Covid. Thank you for being flexible as we respond responsibly.
As a new member of the CSS community, I would like an opportunity to connect with our CSS community members. At the close of our CSS Community Care Day, I would like to invite you to a socially distanced, outdoor Ice Cream social from 12-1 at the school. Please see more detailed information about the event below.
Below you will also find information about our Kindergarten and 1st Grade Ramp Up Schedules and details on how to find your student's schedule or teacher assignment for this fall.
I am looking forward to working together as a community to support a safe return of students to school this fall. I will be sending out more detailed information about processes and procedures regarding the start of school at the end of the month.
