  • April 13 - Letter to the Community

    Good Evening Lane Families,

This is a brief reminder that there will be no live online classes for the remainder of the week. Teachers are working hard to prepare for the reopening of our school next week and will only be able to post assignments on Canvas for students to complete independently. Please also alert your students that they should complete an attendance form at the end of the day to record their attendance. They only need to complete this form once every afternoon this week. This form can be found posted in all Canvas classes so that students have an easy time finding it.

As always, please reach out if you have questions, concerns or needs that we may be able to help with. You can reach me by replying to this email, or by texting my cell at 971-678-9700. Be well, be safe!

    Sincerely,
    Michael Rowell, Principal

  • April 5 - Principal's Message

    Good Evening Lane Families,

We have been hard at work over the past week planning for the safe, structured re-opening of our school for limited in person classes, beginning on April 19th. We still have some capacity to include more students in this re-opening. The district survey is now closed, but if you decide you would like to have your student come back to the school in the afternoon and we haven't heard from you, please contact us directly. I want to share some general information in this message and highlight some important dates in the next two weeks. Later this week we will be sharing information specific to each individual student who is participating in the afternoon in-person sessions.

Essential Ideas about the Re-opening of Lane MS:

    • All students will continue to receive their primary instruction from teachers in the morning online class meetings for the remainder of the school year. The afternoon in-person sessions will support the activities that all students will experience in the morning, and support positive social interaction between students, something we heard from you is a priority.
    • On the week April 19th, live morning classes will shift to be on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday mornings will be used for teacher office hours and small group instruction. Teachers will focus on lesson- planning and student feedback on Wednesday afternoons and will not be available to students.
    • Students participating in the afternoon, in-person sessions will come to school two afternoons per week, either Mondays and Tuesdays, or Thursdays and Fridays. Classes will begin at 1:30 and end at 4:00 on these days. We will inform families of the cohort your students have been assigned to later this week. Students will see all of their teachers during these afternoons. In order to limit student mixing, teachers will rotate from classroom to classroom, with students staying with a core group for their academic support. They will mix with their grade level peers to see their enrichment teachers.
    • Students and staff will be expected to wear masks, assist in sanitizing their work spaces after use, and follow all other health safety measures. Students will attend sessions in classrooms that permit 6 ft. distancing from others at all times, which means that student group sizes will vary based on the size of the room.
    • Transportation will be provided to students who live more than 1.5 miles from the school. Bus stops will be similar to those used last year. Meals to carry home for the following day will be available without cost to all students who are at school in the afternoons. All others are welcome to come to the school from 3:30 to 4:30 daily to pick up meals.

    Important Dates

April 9 - No classes: End of the quarter teacher planning day

April 14, 15 and 16 - Students will receive asynchronous learning activities from their teachers while we all prepare for the re-opening

April 19 - First day of hybrid Lane school opening. Morning online classes continue for all. Afternoon in-person sessions begin.

As always, please reach out if you have questions, concerns or needs that we may be able to help with. You can reach me by replying to this email, or by texting my cell at 971-678-9700. Be well, be safe!
