  • Community Message

To our Black students and families, and Tabor community,

We see you, and we hear you. Mt. Tabor MS staff collectively denounce racist systemic violence that is and has been happening for centuries. George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor may be the latest displays of racist systemic violence, but we know that our Black families have lived with this trauma and fear daily. We pledge to do more and to do better in response to racism at school and in our community.

This week, our staff is working to provide space for students to process the trauma related to these latest acts of racist violence. We are also reflecting and determining next steps to educate and call to action our student body and staff. As a school community, we will work together to uncover bias, increase self-awareness and use privilege to stand up for our Black, Brown and Indigenous community members. We certainly do not have all the answers, but we are here to listen; we are here to learn; and we are here to do better collectively.

With COVID-19 and the disproportionate impact it has had on our communities of color, and the latest murders of our Black brothers and sister, grief is to be expected. To support your family through the grief, resources from The Dougy Center are linked below.

Mt. Tabor MS extends its deepest commitment to you. We will get through this together.
