News from Lane MS: Virtual Back to School Night, Food Pantry
9/18/2021Deal Lane Families,
As we enter our fourth week back at school, and the approaching middle of our first quarter, I want to express my gratitude for all that everyone has been doing to support the health of our community. To date we have not had any identified cases of COVID-19 infection in the building. This is due to your continued attention to screening students for symptoms before they come to school, and checking in with our school medical staff when you have questions. Please continue to watch for primary COVID related symptoms (fever, dry cough, shortness of breath, fatigue,, changes in smell or taste, body aches, and others), keep your student home if you note even minor concerns, and call us for more information and support. We have immediate access to county medical staff who can provide you with professional guidance and support.
Back to School Night Next Wednesday at 6 pm, Online only
We are looking forward to connecting with you next Wednesday, September 22, at 6 pm for our online Back to School Night. Take some time to learn about how our school is growing and meet your students teachers and staff. I will be sending the link to the online meeting in a separate link to make it easy to find us. You can also find the link by following us on Facebook and Instagram.
Vaccination Clinics
There are several opportunities for people ages 12 and older to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. As we work to control the spread of the virus in our community, we encourage all eligible people, age 12 or older, to consider receiving the vaccine.
There are weekly opportunities for afternoon vaccination appointments at local School Based Health Clinics, with the closest to Lane being at Franklin High School. You can reach the Franklin HS Clinic at 503-988-3370 to schedule an appointment and see this flyer for more information about weekly opportunities.
There are vaccination events on Sept 20 in NE Portland and Oct 14 in Fairview (near Gresham) from 4 - 7 pm, no appointment needed. Free food boxes and gift cards are available at these events. See this flyer for more information.
Vaccination Survey
Last Thursday, you should have received a brief survey (5-10 minutes) about your students and the COVID-19 vaccination. It would have come from PPS Communications.
PPS needs to determine how many of our students (ages 12 and older) are fully vaccinated against the virus. As we await approval for the COVID-19 vaccine for younger students (age 5 to 11), we’d like to plan for targeted outreach so that families can quickly access the vaccine. The information you share will help us prioritize vaccine access and outreach to schools this fall.
Please take a moment to complete your unique survey for by September 30, 2021. You can also upload a copy of your student's vaccination card to their records by following these instructions.
Lane Food Pantry
The Lane Food Pantry will be shifting the operations to Tuesdays from 4 until 5:30, starting next week. Please consider making use of this amazing resource and receive free fresh and packaged foods at no cost.
School Busses
PPS continues to experience an extreme shortage of bus drivers throughout the city. At Lane we have had route 307 canceled daily for several days due to this shortage. You can learn more about this shortage and about how to become a bus driver here.
Opportunities for Family Input and Involvement
One of the many impacts that we have experienced at school through the pandemic has been a reduction in parent and family involvement. We know that even the basics have been a challenge through the past many many months, but we are hoping that we can begin to build stronger avenues for parents and family members to be involved. Please reply to this email, call the school or send a brief text to my work cell phone (971-678-9700), to let me know that you are interested in knowing more about how to get involved at school.
As always, please reach out if you have questions, concerns or needs that we may be able to help with. You can reach me by replying to this email, or by texting my cell at 971-678-9700. Be well, be safe!
Sincerely,
Michael Rowell, Principal
