Leap into 9th Grade
PROGRAM CANCELED FOR SUMMER 2020
Thank you for your interest in the Leap into 9th Grade summer program. Due to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines and budget constraints, Leap into 9th Grade will not take place this summer. Other summer enrichment opportunities for incoming 9th grade students will be shared here shortly.
The Leap into 9th Grade summer program prepares incoming ninth-grade students to excel in high school by building a foundation for success before starting high school.
What is the curriculum?
- Intelligence isn’t a fixed quality — Being smart is about how you think and what you do, not about who you are. Students learn how their brains change as they learn and how effective effort, productive persistence, skills of collaboration, and motivation can change their academic success. Students also learn how to manage their own engagement in schoolwork, thus taking responsibility for their own learning.
- Integrating the AVID Summer Bridge Algebra Readiness program strengthens students’ understanding of fundamental math concepts to provide a solid foundation for success in math. Students will participate in math content with a WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) emphasis: Focused note-taking, interactive notebooks, writing and vocabulary, and team-building activities.
- Students discover their interests and learn about different opportunities available to them during high school and after high school. Students participate in hands-on activities related to career and technical education (CTE) programs, practice career and financial planning and go on field trips to industry partner facilities.
