Adopt a Farmer
This program is designed to help Oregon middle school students better understand how agriculture works. Each participating class adopts one Oregon farm or ranch for the entire school year. During the year the 6th grade class takes at least one field trip there to experience it firsthand. The farmer or rancher also visits the classroom once a quarter to share information about life and work on the farm.
This year students will work with a potato farmer at JD Ranch on Sauvie Island. JD Ranch grows potatoes for Tim’s Cascade chip company, as well as other vegetable row crops for the grower co-op NORPAC (Santiam canned brand and Flavrpac frozen foods). They also grow strawberries among other crops.
