  • BEH Weekly Family Message

    Hello BEH Families,

I can't believe we are already in October and SUN school has begun. It has been a blur of a first month of school, but I am looking forward to finally moving past our fall assessments and using that data to guide our instruction moving forward.

    Bus Changes:
Our stop at 5221 N Haight is shifting from routes 201 (AM) and 292 (PM) to route 208 (AM & PM). This shift is to balance the number of students on each bus. This shift will be taking place on Wednesday of this week. Make sure and check the times for all stops if your child rides the school bus as they are all shifting slightly to accommodate this change.

    Site Council:
I will be sending out a virtual invite to our Site Council from last school year for this Thursday at 5:30. We will review data and discuss plans for this year. Following this meeting, we will be reelecting our Site Council members at our next BEH PTA meeting. If you are interested in joining or learning more please join us at the PTA meeting next week.

    Family Friday:
This Friday is our weekly Family Friday. We will have board games, snacks, and coffee for families that want to come to the gym between 8:00-8:40am to start the day with some family fun.

    Principal Connect:
I will be out of the building for meetings this Friday, so our amazing assistant principal, Ms. Freeman will be leading our principal connect this week. This is a great time to connect with her and hear what our building has been working on and what is coming up.

    BEH PTA Newsletter:
Our PTA has put together a newsletter to share what is coming up in October for the BEH PTA. Take a look at it here.

I am looking forward to another great week at BEH. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any thoughts or questions as we move through this week. You can always reach me by calling the office or responding to this email.

    Take care,
    Mr. Kaveh

  • Update on the Fourth Day of Mediation

Today, we spent our time with the Portland Association of Teachers (PAT) discussing financial matters. As an Oregonian story last week made clear, we are far apart on finances – and that distance seems to be rooted, in part, in misunderstandings that we wanted to clarify.

  • PPS "bucked the trend"

At a time when, unfortunately, many districts are experiencing significant dips – at a time when national trends are going backwards – we’re proud to share with you that we have made notable gains. Across all grades, we outperformed other Oregon districts by more than 10% in both English Language Arts and Math. And in all grades, our students also improved from last year in both Math and English Language Arts.

  • Update on the Third Day of Mediation

Today was disappointing – for us but, most importantly, for our students and families. The Portland Association of Teachers offered no counter proposals – and yet declared impasse.

  • Update on the Second Day of Mediation

PPS Flyer with students in background

Today, we offered compromises that would both reward our educators and further our students’ success. We were able to raise our compensation offer substantially. We are not there yet, but we are committed to the hard work of finding common ground.
