In the spring of 2010 a grant was won to build a garden in Sitton's courtyard. With the help of staff, students, and community volunteers the garden was built in the summer of 2010. The garden has six 4ft x 8ft raised beds for vegetables and herbs, it has a 100 sq ft strawberry patch, and it is landscaped primarily with native plants.

Today, we have added to our garden and have additional raised beds in our back field. We are currently working on adding a third garden near the Learning Cottage, and becoming a Certified Backyard Habitat.

Through the learning garden and the hard work of Sitton's Green Team, students now have an outdoor extension of their classroom. They participate in engaging, hands-on, and practical projects in the areas of math and science.  They have also produced food to be served in the cafeteria, and they have provided fresh produce to families in need. Check out the Friends of the Sitton Garden Facebook page to learn about what our students are working on and how you can get involved.
